Sexual Assault: At the Claude Nicol Centre we aim to provide a supportive, sensitive and comprehensive sexual health service to women and men who have been sexually assaulted.

Emotional Support: Many people suffer some form of emotional upset following a sexual assault. Talking to someone who understands may help you to feel better. We can discuss your concerns and refer on for more in depth counselling and support if required.

What About HIV and other sexually transmitted Infections?: Generally, it would be unlikely to contract an infection following an assault. However it is advisable to have a full check up. It can take some time for certain infections to be detected, and we can advise you about attending for follow up tests. If you have any specific concerns, or are worried that you may be at a high risk, please contact the health advisers on 01273 664716.

What about vaccinations for hepatitis B?: Hepatitis B is a virus that can be sexually transmitted, although rates in the UK are low. We can offer you a vaccination up to six weeks after a possible risk.

What about emergency contraception?: Emergency contraception can be taken up to 72 hours following unprotected sexual intercourse. It is available from local pharmacies, family planning clinics, General Practitioners or from this clinic. An emergency coil can be fitted up to five days post exposure, this needs to be arranged with a family planning clinic.

What if I want to report to the police?: If you want to report what has happened to the police, the number is 0845 6070999. An assault can be reported at anytime, however forensic evidence usually needs to be taken within a week of the incident. We can talk through the options to help you make a decision, or you can contact the police directly.
