We run a Triage system to assist us manage our HIV Emergency Clinic. If you are unwell, please telephone the department first and ask to speak to one of the nursing staff. You will be assessed by a nurse and if you're problem is related to HIV we will book you into our daily emergency clinic, if it is not related to HIV you will be asked to attend your GP. If you are unwell out of normal working hours you can contact the Out of Hours Service on Howard 2 to get some advice.
We recommend you disclose your HIV status to your GP to help ensure all your health care needs are managed as effectively and efficiently as possible. With your consent we will normally communicate with your GP on a yearly basis to update them about your HIV care and treatment. We can provide you with a list of GP's who have a special interest in HIV and Sexual Health and have a clear understanding around issues of confidentiality.
It is really important you ensure you have enough of your HIV medication. Generally your Doctor should prescribe enough to take you up until you next appointment. However, if your appointment has changed or you realise you are getting very low but have at least 48 hours supply please contact Sussex Eye Hospital Pharmacy directly Tel 01273-664722. If you have less than 48 hours supply you need to contact the Lawson Unit and ask to speak to one of the nurses who will organise a prescription for you to pick up.
Please contact the HIV pharmacy on 664877 if you are taking or going to start any herbal remedies, homeopathic or Chinese medicines to make sure they don't affect your HIV medicines.
You are advised to have a Flu jab if you are HIV +ve but it is something you need to have at your GP.
It is important you have regular dental health check ups and you will need to access a dentist nearest to you. There is a list of dentists with Lawson reception you are welcome to a copy of.
